A jury in Newark, New Jersey recently awarded the estate of a deceased motorcyclist $2 million in compensation. The motorcyclist was riding southbound on Route 287, when two commercial trucks owned by the same company attempted to make a lane change. When the motorcyclist attempted to avoid the trucks, his motorcycle overturned and skidded on the roadway. He was then struck by another car, sustaining multiple injuries, and ultimately died at the scene. The jury apportioned 75 percent negligence to the commercial truck drivers, 12 percent negligence to the driver of the car that hit the motorcyclist, and 13 percent comparative negligence to the motorcyclist.
