$1.4 Million Settlement For New Jersey Corrections Worker in Gloucester Auto Accident Lawsuit

A former NJ state corrections employee accepted $1.4 million to settle his lawsuit for personal injuries caused when he swerved to avoid debris from a tire blowout on a tractor trailer. On July 20, 2009, the plaintiff was driving a Department of Corrections vehicle on Route 55 in Gloucester Township. While his vehicle was behind a tractor trailer, a tire on the tractor trailer blew out and parts of the tire flew towards the vehicle. Plaintiff swerved to avoid pieces of the tire as well as other vehicles, and crashed into a ditch off the road. He sustained lumbar and cervical spine injuries requiring multiple surgeries. It was alleged that the tractor trailer had a flat tire repaired shortly before the accident, and that the tire that blew out should have been discovered upon reasonable inspection. The case settled shortly before trial.
