The estate of a man who died from a blood clot following a surgical weight loss procedure was recently awarded $1.1 million by a Hudson County, NJ jury. The man died as a result of a blood clot that traveled from his leg to his lung four days after undergoing gastric bypass surgery. It was alleged in the medical malpractice lawsuit brought by the decedent's estate that the doctors who performed the surgery failed to provide sufficient blood thinners following the surgery or perform follow-up tests after an inconclusive ultrasound. It was further alleged that the doctors discharged the decedent prematurely. No settlement offer was made by the defendants and the trial lasted four weeks in total.
