Somerset County, NJ Medical Malpractice Birth Injury Lawsuit Settles For $14.9 Million
New Jersey Personal Injury Lawyers

A $14.9 million settlement was recently reached in a medical malpractice lawsuit on behalf of the family of an infant who suffered brain injuries just hours after birth. The infant was born anemic at Somerset Medical Center and needed a blood transfusion. The attending neonatologist ordered a blood count, but left the facility soon after the child’s birth and the nurse caring for the child failed to recognize the warning signs of respiratory distress. A blood transfusion wasn’t administered until almost three and a half hours after birth and the child now has cerebral palsy. The neonatologist’s employer contributed $11 million, while the nurse’s employer contributed $3.9 million to the pre-trial settlement.
