The woman was riding the minibus on her way home from work in 2012 when she attempted exit the vehicle near the intersection of Pavonia and Newark. However, the minibus driver opened the door of the minibus before the vehicle stopped moving, causing plaintiff to fall out and strike her face on the pavement. Plaintiff broke her jaw, nose and orbital bone, and lost all her teeth among other injuries. As a result, plaintiff had to undergo multiple reconstructive surgeries to repair her face and replace her teeth. The case settled prior to trial, and plaintiff was provided personal injury injury protection benefits which covered some of the medical costs.
